Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail

« back to classes page
Discover the fascinating history behind one of Nevada's most iconic transportation corridors. Learn about the Virginia & Truckee Railroad and its vital role in supporting the Comstock mining boom, explore the nationwide Rails-to-Trails movement, and hear the story of the Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail and plans for its future development. The class concludes with a guided visit to a portion of the trail, offering participants an opportunity to experience firsthand how history, recreation, and community development come together along this unique corridor.

Please come prepared for outdoor conditions during the trail visit. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. Family members are welcome to join the optional trail portion of the program. Students must provide their own transportation to site.

This presentation is offered in partnership with the Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail organization, a local nonprofit. While registration fees support TMCC EPIC programming, participants who wish to support the nonprofit's ongoing trail preservation and development efforts will have an opportunity to make a voluntary donation. Suggested donations of $5-$20 are appreciated but entirely optional.
