This introductory course provides students with a foundational understanding of traditional Japanese sword art with a primary focus on Aikiken, the sword principles and practices associated with the martial arts of Aikido. Designed for beginners, the course introduces the relationship between sword movement, body alignment, timing, distance, and awareness while emphasizing safety, discipline, and traditional martial arts etiquette.
Students will explore how Aikiken develops coordination, posture, balance, and fluid movement through structured solo and partner exercises using practice training swords (bokken). The course also examines the historical and philosophical connections between Japanese sword traditions and modern Aikido practices.
