Investigating Abandoned Mining Camps: Seven Troughs

CourseGraphic Venture into the Nevada outback and visit a long-abandoned mining camp. During the lecture, explore the techniques and challenges involved in outdoor investigations, safety concerns when wandering around historic sites and how to find good outdoor locations for ghost hunting. Discuss equipment from thermal imaging and digital recordings to environmental measures. Learn how to mitigate false positives from wind, noise and weather conditions. On Saturday, caravan in your own vehicle to Seven Troughs in Pershing County. Seven Troughs boomed with the gold rush of 1907 when it boasted a population of 350 people. By 1918, most people had left. Several buildings remain today.

Please read:  Must be at least 16 years old to attend. Seven Troughs is located in a remote portion of Pershing County. The dirt road is accessible to high clearance vehicles, you do not need a 4-wheel drive. Class will meet at TMCC Meadowood Center. Bring plenty of water, food and dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes as you will be walking on uneven terrain and bring cameras, digital recorders or other paranormal investigating equipment you may have.
