Pony Express in Nevada

CourseGraphic Explore the fascinating history and tour old stops of the Pony Express, a legendary U.S. attempt at fast mail service. Hear stories, some true and some not so true, of its brief existence from April 1860 to October 1861 and the colorful characters it produced.  Learn why this mail delivery idea came about and quickly faded and go in-depth about the 420-mile Nevada stretch of the route. During a field trip, visit two Pony Express stations at Buckland Station and Sand Springs near Sand Mountain.

Please read:  There are limited facilities on the field trip, so you will need to furnish your own transportation and a lunch. The drive from Reno to Buckland Station takes about an hour via USA Parkway, and it’s another hour to Sand Springs. If you choose to visit the museum there, the entry fee is $3.
