CourseGraphic Uncover the fascinating geologic history of the Reno area in this engaging field-based course led by a geologist. Discover how volcanic activity, faulting, and ancient lake systems shaped the Sierra Nevada and surrounding landscapes. Learn to recognize evidence of earthquakes, glaciation, and erosion while visiting notable local features throughout the region. Participants will also gain hands-on experience identifying common minerals and rock types and learn simple techniques for classifying their discoveries. Along the way, explore how natural processes such as wildfires and climate patterns continue to influence the landscape. Enjoy time in the field while connecting geology with the rich natural history of northern Nevada.

Please pack accordingly for the field trip by bringing snacks, food, water, sun protection, layers for Nevada weather, and any other items that will help you feel comfortable for the day. Families are welcome; everyone must register
